Invitation from the Haudenosaunee Row

Niagara Giant Two Row March | Invitation from the Haudenosaunee Row

We wish to extend greetings to our neighbours, to our Onkwehonwe (native) and non-native allies, and to all our brothers and sisters across Turtle Island.

We, Haudenosaunee, invite you to join us on Saturday, February 2, 2013 to walk for Peace, Respect and Friendship, as represented by the Two Row Wampum. We will meet at St. Catharines City Hall and march through a downtown route ending at Montello Park for a gathering featuring speakers, drumming, dancing and kid’s activities.

It has been 400 years of the Two Row Wampum treaty which has informed all other Haudenosaunee treaties on Turtle Island. The time has come to call for all of our treaties to be honoured and respected. This includes treatment of Mother Earth and sacred waters of Turtle Island.

The Two Row Wampum belt has three rows of white and two rows of purple beads made from sacred shells. These shells have always been used for exchange and proof of agreements made. Each purple row represents our people and our allies. We were to stay parallel with each other- us in our canoes and our allies in their ships but never to cross into one another.

As long as the Sun shines upon this Earth, that is how long our Agreement will stand; Second, as long as the Water still flows; and Third, as long as the Grass Grows Green at a certain time of the year. Now we have Symbolized this Agreement and it shall be binding forever as long as Mother Earth is still in motion.
